Museum Bingo – How to Keep Your Kid from Getting Bored

My child’s attention span is not very long. When I am planning activities, I sometimes hear her say, “This is taking forever…This is taking so long.” It can be unnerving for a parent that is trying her best to . I have to think of ways to keep her occupied so our trips are not upended by a impatient child.

We had another day off. I decided to take Alana back through Downtown to the Dallas Museum of Art.  I used to frequent museums and new exhibits all the time but not much in recent years. As a kid, I liked the museum for about 5 minutes before I got bored, and I was sure my kid was going to be the same. However, there are some interesting things that can be found in Museums that are tied to human history, development and imaginative capabilities. It is an enriching experience especially if you make it fun. This Museum Bingo game makes it fun. It was a hit with my kid. Papers and stickers are all you need.

Basically, you walk around the museum looking for items on your bingo card—like statue, pictures of flowers, hat, etc.  The first one to get 5 in a row wins! That may not take you far. So in addition, I told my daughter if she gets all of them, she gets a prize.

Whenever we would see something on our list, we would place a sticker on it. To her it was a small victory every time she found something.  It made her excited about finding the next one. She kept exploring and exploring, and we both lost track of time. She won and asked for a snow cone. We walked through the museum taking pictures of the art we liked and talking about why we liked them–or did not like them.

I am attaching Bingo cards I made from (Free) Royalty Free Images I found. The pictures on the card are meant for broader interpretations. The lighting picture could be tagged when you find a painting illustrating weather conditions. The statue could be any statue and does not need to be a man riding on a horse.

You are welcome to use these cards or make your own. If your child is learning to read it maybe a good idea to have words instead of pictures. I have also provided a blank bingo card for your use. You do not have to play Bingo at the Museum only. You could do it to occupy your kids on other errands you have to run. I could see a grocery list being a good bingo card. So are the other errands you have on route—pick up dry cleaning. carwash.
