By Marjorie Dennis Murray, Illustrated by Brandon Dorman.
This is a rhyming tale that plays off the Night Before Christmas classic. It is a story about spooky creatures preparing for Halloween Night . Halloween characters of all walks of life are represented in this book. Zombies walk out from their graves and mummies step out of the coffin. The secret ingredient in this witch’s special soup brew is foul footwear, and the green creepy creatures stuff the party bags with fingers and rotten eggs to the delight of their guests. Banshees and ghost hang about the parlor while the twin ogres layout the bug infested buffet.
The only characters that are not having a ball are the trick or treaters that run at the sight of this horrid gathering. This ghoulish tale maybe too scary for infants and toddlers, but the older kids would like this. Reserve this for the older kids with less timid souls.
I like this book. It is well written. I like how they made the rhyme works with the Halloween theme. However, if your kid is not into the scary part of Halloween, Skip it. Read it to yourself before you read it to your kids to make sure it is appropriate for your family.
