Once upon a time (2014), I was at my parent’s house with my niece. It was Thanksgiving. To keep her occupied, I came up with a scavenger hunt. She had so much fun that she asked me to come up with one for her 10th birthday so her friends can also enjoy it. I really enjoyed creating this scavenger hunt. Unfortunately, I do not have the original one I did on Thanksgiving.

Some of the clues use poetry by others, and I have designated the authors on these clues—Robert Frost, Rumi, and Amera Anderson. The pictures are from Pixabay and Unsplash. Everything else is my work. The rest of the poetry whether you like them or not are my work.

I tweaked the words on Clue 8, but other than that these are the original clues I used. For the most part, these are objects you can find in most homes or objects you can get easily. If you absolutely cannot find an object that fits the clue skip it or come up with your own. You can do it!

First, download the clues. I have two different sizes for the clues. You will have to print the clues without the margins. Next, place the clues around the house. Clue #1 should be given to the players. Each clue will be place in previous clue location. For example, clue #2 will be placed around apples.

See answers to the clues below.

Answers

  • Clue 1—Apples is the answer. They grow on a tree. We make pies out of them. You can buy them covered in caramel on a stick.
  • Clue 2—Musical instruments, piano, or music sheets. Ti, do, and fa are from musical scales.
  • Clue 3—Purple flowers. Red and blue make purple. Picture of purple flowers also work.
  • Clue 4—Chessboards have 64 squares. They also have queens and bishops. The poem by Amera Anderson is about a chess board.
  • Clue 5—Teacups or kettle. Chip and Ms. Pots were Beauty’s friend. You could also use candlestick or desk watch.
  • Clue 6—A statue or picture of an angel or fairy.
  • Clue 7—This is the most difficult. Place clue 8 inside a book (tome) that is placed under pictures of trees with a path going through it. That is a specific picture. I am going to assume most people do not have that same picture. I would use your backyard or the front entry that leads you away from home.
  • Clue 8. This was a triangular tent at my sister’s house that my niece used. Again, most people do not have triangular tents but anything that is triangular (or pyramid) in shape will work.
  • Clue 9. Mirror. This should be easy.
  • Clue 10. We did this at night. This was the backyard under the star and moon by a light.
  • Clue 11. This was the ice box in the kitchen. That is the room where fire and ice dwell together.
