Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day

Book Cover for Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day

By Judith Viorst, Illustrated by Ray Cruz

This maybe a classic. If not, it should be. I loved it when I was a kid but do not see it on many lists. The book is about a boy who professes that he is having a terrible horrible no good very bad day, but many times fails to see how his actions contribute to it. Instead he proposes moving to Australia. This book exemplifies the lesson all our mothers have tried to teach us. Simply put: Mama said there will be days like this… even in Australia.

My daughter loves the rhythm and repetition of the motto line of this book. She insists on being the one to read it. My nieces loved this book as well. If it is not…it should be a classic.  I wish the illustrations were in color, but this is still a great book.
